Stockholm came alive on International Women’s Day 2025, as the Rwanda Women Association in Sweden (RWAS), in collaboration with the Group of African Women Ambassadors, hosted a vibrant and powerful celebration that united the African Diaspora in a remarkable show of solidarity and strength.
Under the theme “Accelerate Action – We are Stronger Together!”, the event brought together more than fifteen nationalities, voices from across the continent and beyond—#Rwanda #Zimbabwe #Tanzania #Botswana #Kenya #SouthAfrica #Republic of Congo #Angola #IvoryCoast #Sudan #Zambia #Sudan #Burundi #Saudi Arabia—to celebrate progress, amplify women’s voices, and ignite action toward a more equitable future.
The day was a rich tapestry of inspiring speeches, lively cultural performances, and thought-provoking panel discussions, creating an atmosphere of celebration, reflection, and commitment.
One of the highlights of the event was the impactful conversation on women’s health, led by Prof. Anna Mia Ekström from Karolinska Institutet, Dr. Anh Waltel Deputy Director General of International Vaccine Institute; Malala Ophelia Haanyama Project Manager from Posithiva Gruppen and Dr.Tajeri Aydin CEO of Health Clinic Östermalm. These discussions tackled critical global health challenges, reminding us that when women lead, nations thrive. The dialogue underscored the importance of inclusive, accessible healthcare and reinforced our shared mission: #HealthForAll.

The stage was lit with electrifying performances that showcased the richness of African culture and talent. Audiences were moved by the soulful voice of Miriam Mandipira from Zimbabwe, thrilled by Chris Eazy from Rwanda and Spice Diana from Uganda, and enchanted by the energy of the RWAS Traditional Dancers—both young and adult—who brought Rwandan heritage to life through dance.
From the powerful words to the pulsing rhythms, the celebration was a testament to the unstoppable force of African women and their communities. We laughed, we danced, we listened, and we committed to action. The journey toward gender equality is ongoing, but days like this remind us that we are not alone—we are stronger together.
✨ What an unforgettable #IWD2025 with Stockholm’s African Diaspora!
We celebrated. We connected. We rose.
